Bali Airport Transfer Guide

Everything you need to know about arriving at Ngurah Rai International Airport and getting to your hotel.

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is Bali's main gateway, serving over 25 million passengers annually. For first-time visitors, navigating arrival procedures, immigration, and ground transportation can feel overwhelming. This comprehensive guide covers everything from landing to checking into your hotel.

Airport Overview

Ngurah Rai International Airport (IATA: DPS) is located in Tuban, South Kuta, only 2.5 km from Kuta Beach and 13 km from Denpasar city center. The airport has a single integrated terminal (domestic and international flights share facilities) that was fully renovated in 2014.

  • Address: Jalan Raya Gusti Ngurah Rai, Tuban, Kuta, Badung, Bali 80362.
  • Coordinates: 8.7467° S, 115.1668° E.
  • Timezone: WIB (Western Indonesian Time, UTC+8). Bali does not observe daylight saving time.
  • WiFi: Free airport WiFi is available throughout the terminal. Network name: "@wifi.id" or "DPS_Free_WiFi".

Arrival Procedures for International Visitors

After landing, follow these steps:

  1. Health & Immigration: Proceed to immigration counters. Have your passport, boarding pass, and completed arrival card ready. Most tourists receive a 30-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) for IDR 500,000, payable by cash or card.
  2. Baggage Claim: Collect your luggage from the carousel corresponding to your flight. Free luggage carts are available.
  3. Customs Declaration: All passengers must submit a customs declaration via the electronic Customs Declaration System (e-CD) before arrival. You can fill this out online at ecd.beacukai.go.id up to 3 days before arrival to save time.
  4. Exit to Arrivals Hall: After customs, you will enter the public arrivals hall where drivers, taxis, and car rental agents wait.

Transportation Options from DPS Airport

There are several ways to get from the airport to your accommodation:

1. Pre-Booked Airport Transfer (Recommended)

The most reliable and stress-free option. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign, assists with luggage, and takes you directly to your hotel.

  • Cost: IDR 150,000 - 350,000 depending on destination (Kuta/Seminyak/Canggu/Ubud).
  • Booking: Reserve through Baliqu at least 24 hours in advance via WhatsApp or our website.
  • Includes: Meet & greet, luggage assistance, air-conditioned vehicle, bottled water.
  • Flight delay policy: Baliqu drivers monitor flight status and adjust pickup time at no extra charge for delays under 2 hours.

2. Airport Taxi (Official)

The official airport taxi counter is located just outside the arrivals hall. Prices are fixed by zone.

  • Cost to Kuta: IDR 80,000 - 100,000.
  • Cost to Seminyak: IDR 120,000 - 150,000.
  • Cost to Ubud: IDR 300,000 - 350,000.
  • Tip: Only use the official counter inside the terminal. Ignore touts approaching you in the arrivals hall.

3. Ride-Hailing Apps (Grab & Gojek)

Grab and Gojek operate in Bali but have restricted pickup zones at the airport. Drivers are not allowed to pick up passengers from the main terminal curb.

  • Pickup location: You must walk to the designated ride-hailing pickup point, approximately 300 meters from the terminal (follow signs for "Online Transport").
  • Cost: Generally 30-40% cheaper than airport taxis.
  • Limitation: Not available for late-night arrivals (after 11:00 PM) due to airport regulations.

4. Rent a Car at the Airport

If you are comfortable driving in Bali, renting a car directly at the airport gives you immediate freedom. Several international and local agencies have desks in the arrivals hall.

  • Requirements: Original home-country license + International Driving Permit (IDP).
  • Average cost: IDR 250,000 - 600,000 per day depending on vehicle class.
  • Baliqu advantage: We deliver the car directly to the airport curb with all paperwork completed in advance. No queueing at rental desks.
