How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Car in Bali?

A transparent breakdown of car rental prices, hidden fees, and what you actually get for your money.

One of the most common questions we receive from travelers is: "How much does it actually cost to rent a car in Bali?" The answer depends on the vehicle type, rental duration, season, and what is included in the package. This guide breaks down every cost component so you can budget accurately for your Bali trip.

What Is Included in the Rental Price?

At Baliqu, our quoted daily rate includes the following:

  • Vehicle rental for 24 hours (or the agreed period).
  • 24/7 roadside assistance anywhere in Bali.
  • Pre-loaded toll card (e-money) for the Bali Mandara Toll Road.
  • GPS tracking for vehicle security and recovery support.
  • Unlimited mileage within the island of Bali.
  • Daily rental extension available by contacting our team before the original return time.

Additional Costs to Budget For

While our rental rate is transparent, there are other costs you should plan for:

  • Security deposit: A refundable deposit of IDR 500,000 - 5,000,000 is held during your rental. It is returned 1-2 business days after vehicle return (subject to no damage or violations).
  • Fuel: Vehicles are delivered with a documented fuel level and must be returned at the same level. If you return with less fuel, we charge IDR 75,000 per missing gauge bar. Expect to spend IDR 150,000 - 400,000 on fuel for a full day of driving around Bali.
  • Parking: Most tourist attractions charge IDR 5,000 - 20,000 for parking. Beach clubs and hotels usually offer free parking for customers.
  • Toll road fees: Bali Mandara Toll Road costs IDR 10,000 - 15,000 per section. The e-money card in your rental vehicle covers this; we deduct the total from your deposit.
  • Traffic fines (ETLE): Any speeding, red-light, or seatbelt violations captured by CCTV are the renter's responsibility. Fines range from IDR 250,000 - 1,000,000.
  • Optional Collision Damage Waiver (CDW): Reduces your liability for major accident damage from full repair cost to a maximum of IDR 3,000,000 per incident. Available at IDR 75,000 - 150,000 per day depending on vehicle class.
  • Additional driver: IDR 50,000 per day for each extra authorized driver (must also present valid license + IDP).

How to Get the Best Rental Deal in Bali

  • Book early: Reserving 2-4 weeks in advance guarantees better vehicle selection and avoids high-season surcharges.
  • Rent for longer: Weekly rates offer 15-25% savings compared to daily rates multiplied by 7.
  • Choose the right vehicle: Don't overpay for a luxury SUV if an Avanza suits your needs. Our team can recommend the best vehicle based on your itinerary and group size.
  • Ask about packages: Baliqu offers bundled deals that include airport pickup, car rental, and a private driver day tour — often cheaper than booking separately.
  • Avoid unlicensed operators: Street-side rentals with no office or insurance may seem cheap, but they leave you exposed to full liability in accidents.
